We’re excited to highlight a conversation with the newest member of the BM&G team, Client Services Representative Tara Rock, to learn more about her background, industry perspective, and what drew her to our firm.
With decades of experience in financial services and deep involvement in the mortgage industry, Tara brings a relationship-driven approach and a passion for helping clients navigate challenges with confidence.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background in the mortgage industry and what initially drew you to this field?
Before joining BM&G, I spent 15 years at Enact Mortgage Insurance partnering with independent mortgage bankers, community banks, and credit unions across Texas. That experience gave me a deep understanding of what lenders actually need from their partners and what it means to show up for them consistently, regardless of what the market is doing.
What drew me to this industry in the first place goes back further than that. My mother ran operations for lenders, so the language and the culture of this business were just part of my world growing up.
What I never forgot was the day we moved into our first home, just the two of us carrying boxes through the front door. I had my own bedroom and bathroom for the first time, and as a kid, that was everything. That feeling has never left me, and it’s a big part of why I’ve always believed this work matters beyond the transaction.
Q: You’ve been actively involved in several industry organizations, including serving as PAC co-chair for the @Texas Mortgage Bankers Association, membership chair for the @Austin Mortgage Bankers Association, and on the @Houston Mortgage Bankers Association sponsorship committee. How have those experiences shaped your perspective on the mortgage industry in Texas today?
The industry is stronger when people across the mortgage ecosystem work together toward something bigger than their own business. That’s what those roles reinforced for me, and I’m grateful to be able to have a seat at the table.
That’s something I’ve seen reflected at BM&G in a way that genuinely sets them apart. The depth of this firm’s involvement in industry organizations goes well beyond showing up, the BM&G team is embedded in the conversations that shape policy, compliance, and the future of this industry. Being part of a firm that operates at that level, and that values that kind of engagement, means a lot to me.
Q: One of BM&G’s core values is maintaining a strong customer focus. How has your previous experience prepared you for your role as a Client Services Representative?
For me, great client service starts with listening……. really listening. Not just to what clients are asking for, but to what’s underneath it. That’s how you stay a step ahead, catch potential issues before they become problems, and show up as someone they can count on at every stage, not just when things are easy.
I’ve always thought of myself as a service advocate, and I take that seriously. It means being responsive, being accurate, and being present when it matters. That philosophy fits naturally with how BM&G approaches client relationships, and it’s the standard I hold myself to.
Q: The mortgage industry continues to evolve rapidly. What trends or changes are you most excited about, and how do you see your role contributing to that progress?
Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one thing because right now everything is moving at once. Compliance is shifting, AI is starting to change how lenders actually operate day to day, and the policy conversations at the state and federal level are going to shape all of it. Those three things are more connected than people realize, and the lenders who are watching all of them — not just one — are going to be in a very different position than those who aren’t.
What I appreciate about BM&G is that they’re not watching from the sidelines. They’re engaged in those conversations and making sure clients know what’s coming before it hits. That kind of proactive partnership is something I’ve always believed in, and finding a firm that operates the same way matters.
Q: What attracted you to Black, Mann & Graham, and what makes it the right fit for you?
BM&G’s reputation speaks for itself: integrity, consistency, and a real commitment to doing things right. Those aren’t talking points here, you can feel it in the culture and see it with the tenure of the BM&G team.
My early conversations with @Ryan Black and @Steven Kubik made it clear that my approach to client service would fit well here. It’s collaborative, the standards are high, and quality is expected. That’s exactly the kind of place I want to contribute to.
Q: Outside of work, what are some of your interests or hobbies that help you stay energized?
What energizes me most right now is watching my adult children build their lives and getting to be part of it. My son just got married and my daughter recently got engaged, and there’s a joy in this chapter I didn’t fully anticipate. Somehow these milestones feel even bigger than the ones when they were little.
Outside of that, I’m a “professional piddler”….which is a very prestigious designation. A good weekend involves gardening, antiquing, wandering through design stores, and finding somewhere new to explore. I like being surrounded by things that carry a story, that sense of discovery is what keeps me energized, inside and outside of work.
Q: Thank you for your time, Tara — we’re really glad you’re here!
I’m so glad to be here. I’m excited about what we can build together at Black, Mann & Graham, and I look forward to getting to know this team and our clients for many years to come.
